The Launch of the World Environment Day 2026 Festival Activities at Our University

Under the sponsorship of the University President, Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashamy, the activities of the World Environment Day 2026 festival were launched this morning under the slogan "Green Hands and a Sense of the Earth's Pulse" on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026. This was in the presence of the Head of the Higher Education and Education Authority at the Holy Abbasid Shrine, Prof. Dr. Abbas Al-Deda Al-Mousawi; member of the Board of Directors of the Holy Shrine, Dr. Afdal Al-Shami; the University President and his assistants for scientific and administrative affairs; college deans; department directors; along with faculty members, employees, students, and all university staff.

The festival's activities, which were held in the Imam Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) Hall, commenced with a blessed recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the playing of the national anthem and the "Pride of the Fathers" (Lahn Al-Abaa) anthem. This was followed by the speech of the University President, in which he emphasized the importance of enhancing environmental awareness, introducing the earth and its value, consolidating the concepts of sustainable development in academic institutions, and the role of universities in preparing generations aware of environmental issues and climate change.

The festival witnessed a presentation of the efforts of the Abbasid Shrine in the field of environmental protection and supporting sustainable development projects, as well as a review of the environmental initiatives adopted by our university within the framework of its social responsibility.

The program also included a panel discussion entitled "Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action in Modern Universities," during which the participants discussed the most important environmental challenges and ways to enhance sustainable practices within the university campus, followed by interventions and questions from the audience.

The activities included a scientific lecture addressing the risks of plastic pollution and the impacts of microplastics on the environment and public health, presented by specialists in the environmental field. This was in addition to the opening of the university environmental exhibition, which included awareness works and projects highlighting the importance of preserving the environment and rationalizing the consumption of natural resources.

The festival concluded with the launch of a tree-planting campaign within the university campus, with the participation of the attendees and guests, emphasizing the importance of increasing green spaces and enhancing environmental culture within the university community.
